I sure hope that AVG tests its updates by first packaging them up in the same way that “regular” users will get them, and then posts them to a limited-access server, then downloads them (to computers running all supported operating systems and versions) and lets the program automatically install the patches and reboot if necessary.
But I wonder how this bad update got past that kind of test?
If AVG is creating patches, testing parts of them in some isolated way, and THEN packaging the patches and uploading them to its servers, that is the wrong way to QA the updates.
    I’m just sayin’.

Who do I send my bill to?

This is not just a Windows 7 problem. I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit machine running the AVG File Server 2011, and after the recent update just about 2 days ago, BAM!!! All messed up!
Imagine, AVG’s support is not even 24hrs, and closed on weekends, and especially for businesses, this really sucks.
Local tech support is junk. Imagine, I had to call another country’s AVG helpdesk just to get some help!
Hope this incident raises some serious self thinking within AVG…You’re losing customers this way.

I agree with all the above comments. My computer’s in the shop now. Wouldn’t open windows soI couldn’t get on line to find outabout the fix. Big expense for a free program.

Took my computer to Fry’s and the repair tech. quickly asked if I had downloaded the FREE AVG 11 one-time download. The computer tech said that he had a run of people coming in with Windows (Vista) that will not boot. Fry’s are trying to save my data off the hard drive $$$. Before this happened I told everyone they needed AVG. Pretty bad to be shut down by virus protection! I will be watching your site for what to do next about my broken computer. Any quick fixes?
