On January 17th, the NFC and Contactless Class of 2014 completed the first three month phase of the start-up accelerator program, Startupbootcamp in Amsterdam.

The program closed with 400 delegates participating in a demo day to show off the innovation that has been fostered over the last quarter.

Klaas Knot, the President of the Dutch Central Bank and Gerrit Zalm, CEO of ABN Amro Bank were present and gave keynote speeches to the gathered participants, investors and press.

AVG attended the demo day both as an investor and partner in Startupbootcamp, and of all the companies on show, here are the ones that caught my eye:

Relayr:

This innovative startup has developed a smart sensor board that will make it easier than ever to connect everyday objects to the Internet. If you’ve ever wondered what the Internet of Things might look like, Relayr could well be it.

Buzzoek

Using Near Field Communication (NFC) in existing payment technology (think chips in bank cards), Buzzoek hopes to make in-store loyalty programs a breeze. By connecting all of your loyalty programs to a single chip, customers will no longer need to carry around all of their loyalty cards. Buzzoek comes with an intuitive app that shows the user how close they are to claiming a reward at each store.

Watcher Enterprises

Watcher Enterprises has developed a series of innovative tools and apps to help parents keep track of their kids both via their phone and their “Kidswatcher” watch. As AVG has recently launched the AVG Family Center app, it was fascinating to see another take on how technology can help parents keep their kids safe.
