Why Do We Need AVG Family Safety for Mobile?

Today AVG announced its AVG Family Safety® for mobile is now available for Windows® Phone and that a major update has been added to the iOS® version.

This is big, and I’m going to give you two reasons why:

  1. Your kids are using mobile devices to access the web.
  2. The web is dangerous.

This may seem obvious, but let me ask you:

  • How many times have you passed your iPhone to your kids in the back seat, so you could pay attention to the road?

  • How often have you handed your iPad to your kids, so they could watch a movie while you did the dishes?

  • How long do you let your teens use Facebook with their friends on the phone in their bedrooms?

  • And do you know for a fact that your kids aren’t using mobile devices to explore beyond Netflix or Angry Birds?

As a parent, and as a parent who talks often with other parents, I know it’s easy to forget that mobile devices are just as dangerous as computers—if not more so, simply because we do forget. And as a result, we don’t take proper precautions. But smaller screens don’t mean smaller threats. If it’s web enabled, it’s risk enabled. With just a few clicks, your kids could be talking to the wrong people, bumping into inappropriate images, and tricked into accepting malware.

Truth be told, it’s harder than ever to monitor our kids and their use of mobile devices. And that’s why AVG Family Safety for mobile is so important. It doesn’t replace good parenting, but it can surely support it.

But AVG Family Safety isn’t just about monitoring our kids. It’s about establishing a safe zone where kids can learn and explore. It protects as they socialize. It adapts as they grow. Once you install AVG Family Safety for mobile, AVG helps protect your kids from any malware or adult content they might encounter while surfing on the iPhone, iPad, iTouch, and now, Windows Phone.

And as part of a major update for all supported devices, AVG Family Safety for mobile now comes with AVG Linkscanner®, which safeguards your family’s surfing, searching and social networking by detecting and blocking any hyperlink leading to a malicious site. Whether your teen is tempted to click on the link that promises to reveal “embarrassing photos” of her or an inappropriate site comes up in your second grader’s search result, AVG Family Safety will help prevent your child from going where you don’t want them to go on the mobile web.

And if you link the app to your AVG Family Safety Account, you can manage filtering options, customize the list of allowed and blocked sites, and monitor online activity for each child.

What do you know about your child’s mobile phone use? Have you talked to your kids about the mobile web?
