AVG Secure Search update

Please be informed we have released AVG Secure Search update during the past week. This update alerts users with the following popup:

We recommend installing the most recent AVG Secure Search version. If you have missed the update or the AVG Secure Search appears not to be installed properly, please proceed as follows:

1. Visit this AVG web page.

2. Click the Free download button and download the installation package.

3. Run the downloaded installation package and follow the wizard.

4. The latest AVG Secure Search version will be installed.

Blackhole Exploit Kit type 2314

We have received many reports of the abovementioned exploit being detected on trusted websites (e.g. on Facebook.com):

Some users considered this detection to be merely a false alarm. Actually, the detection was and is 100% correct and AVG protected many systems. We invite you to read the whole story in this AVG Blogs post.

False positive alarms

We noticed a couple of false positive alarms reported on forums in the past week. It is possible that AVG may detect a legitimate application as malicious when a part of its code is similar to a code in newly created malware. This situation happens from time to time with every anti-virus software even though AVG implements advanced anti-false mechanisms to minimize risk of false alarms. If you suspect an application has been detected incorrectly, please submit the respective file to our virus analysts. There are two options how to proceed:

A) Sending via this web page.

B) Sending via e-mail as described in this AVG Forums post. When a sample is analyzed, e-mail response is sent back to sender with result.

AVG Rescue CD does not detect your hardware?

The release candidate version of new AVG Rescue CD is no longer available for Beta testing. Should you face any issues with the current version (e.g.: HDD is not mounted, WiFi issues), please use the most recent AVG Rescue CD alpha version.  The new version of AVG Rescue CD 2012 introduces a set of new features (IPv6 ping, Unrar) and improvements such as unified user interface behavior, improved WiFi support, support for AVG 2013 Virus Vault and a new buildroot.
