AVG Forums visitors have reported that the AVG Anti-Virus component is inactive. This issue is usually caused by hardware failure. We recommend running memory and hard drive tests to check your hardware health should you face similar situation. If the tests reveal that any of the RAM modules or hard drives are faulty, please consult local computer repair shop or your computer vendor for further guidance. The respective faulty component will need to be replaced.
Where are the web safety ratings now?
Please be informed that the Search Shield feature has been redesigned with the latest AVG program update. In the past, the LinkScanner sub-component evaluated your search results and displayed verdict icons with all the results (green icons for safe links, yellow and orange for risky, red for unsafe). We have now improved the search results evaluations. The process is performed on the remote server which ensures that the results are perfectly up to date. To be able to take advantage of this new feature, you should install AVG Secure Search from www.avg.com/secure-search or alternatively the search needs to be performed using the AVG Secure Search website.
Please note that the green verdict icons are not displayed at all, by default. This means only websites with active exploits are highlighted by warning icons. If you’d like to have all the verdict icons displayed as you were used to before, please choose to Show ratings for All Sites directly on the AVG Secure Search page as seen below:

Trojan horse infection
AVG Forums visitors have reported a couple of Trojan horse infections which seem difficult to remove. Should you face any trouble removing an infection detected by AVG, please check this AVG Forum thread for a few tips on how to remove infections. An infection can sometimes return when stored in the System Volume Information folder. You can disable the operating system’s restore functionality temporarily in order to remove the malware from this location as described here.
If the infection still persists, it could be accompanied by an undetected rootkit. We recommend scanning your computer using an updated AVG Rescue CD which CD is able to remove known rootkits easily.

System slowed down?
After installing background-running software, like security software, it’s expected that the system will slow down as more system resources are being used continuously. While the slowdown is not apparent on new computers, it may be noticeable on slightly older systems. We strongly recommend checking hardware requirements before installing any software. AVG Free Edition minimal and recommended system configuration can be found in this forum post.
Also, please note that running more than one resident security applications often slows the system down. It is recommended to use only one resident (on-access) security software. If you would like to install additional software, make sure to install only the on-demand components. Having more resident security modules running may cause trouble when removing a detected infection.

AVG RescueCD does not detect your hardware
A new candidate version of new RescueCD tool has been made available for Beta testing. We would recommend testing this new version if you have any issue with the current version (e.g.: HDD is not mounted, WiFi issues). The new version of AVG RescueCD 2012.3 introduces set of new features (IPv6 ping, Unrar) and improvements such as unified user interface behavior, improved WiFi support, support for AVG 2013 Virus Vault and new buildroot (Kernel 3.1.4 etc.).
