On behalf of all of us here at the AVG SMB team I would first like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year.
Looking ahead, the prospects for SMB in 2014 are very exciting as we continue the journey of helping resellers to make their move to the managed services model as well as supporting established managed service providers (MSPs) using our cloud-based security, online backup and IT management tools.
Already, we have completed first phase integration of the AVG CloudCare™ platform with the AVG Managed Workplace® remote monitoring and management (RMM) toolset acquired last June. Frontline security services such as AVG AntiVirus and AVG AntiSpam along with remote management of Mac OS/X devices can now be managed via a single pane of glass via AVG Managed Workplace. The range of integrated AVG Managed Workplace services will be further expanded later this month with the addition of Online Backup.
At the same time we more than doubled the number of partners using AVG. Currently around 2,500 resellers and managed services providers worldwide use AVG’s cloud-based SMB platforms on a daily basis to remotely deploy and manage security and IT services on behalf of their small and medium-sized business (SMB) customers. At the heart of our vision is the desire to make life of our resellers as easy as possible. In 2014 we will continue to support those resellers at every step of their journey as they mature as businesses and start to move into the managed services model.
Of course we are well aware that there’s plenty more to do. For a start we have only just begun to scratch the surface of the potential take up of AVG Managed Workplace as a platform among MSPs not to mention the potential for market growth for hitherto unsung parts of the business like HelpDesk and Network Operations Center. To this end we have been quietly strengthening our team with some of the industry’s top talent who have the reputation and know-how to take us forward.
Among these new faces are Marco La Vecchia, Alistair Johnson and Mike Byrne. Marco La Vecchia joined AVG back in August from N-Able where as head of their North America sales operation he had successfully grown the partner base. Reporting to Luke Walling, Marco is responsible for driving new business and accelerating the growth of AVG CloudCare, AVG Managed Workplace, Network Operations Centre and Helpdesk across North America.
In the past few weeks he has been joined by our new Director of Partner Enablement, Mike Byrne. After a successful career in sales, Mike has spent the last 10 years working with and providing MSP-specific consulting services to resellers and MSPs from all over the globe.
A recognised industry figure on the MSP circuit, Mike is well known for his passion for working with partners to deliver the tools and support to maximise their business potential. Prior to joining AVG, Mike was Director of Field & Managed Services at Dell and has previously worked for a number of RMM vendors including Quest, GFI Software, and N-able Technologies.
Together Marco and Mike make a formidable team. The influential North American publication MSPmentor agrees, having just named them both in its list of industry executives to watch at the end of December.
Another recent arrival is Alistair Johnson who joined us from Symantec in September to take charge of product marketing. In a relatively short space of time he has managed to revitalize and centralize our marketing collateral and resources including establishing a dedicated YouTube channel for AVG Managed Workplace and bringing all of our RMM services information within the avg.com Web estate. Its look and feel is now in line with SMB’s other Web resources including AVG CloudCare and the new AVG Internet security business homepages.
January promises to be extremely busy. Mike Byrne is scheduled to make his first visit to the UK to meet with the team and partners there. We will also be holding the latest in our regular Partner Advisory Council meetings to get valuable partner feedback on our progress. I look forward to bringing you more on these and other activities in future posts.
